Teacher and Academician

As head of sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art Carrick was to help create a new generation of Scottish sculptors and was a powerful influence, particularly in his encouragement of the craft of carving.

As Academician his strong personality and good humour helped to ensure that sculpture retained its status in Scottish art.
