Faces of war

Some of Carrick's drawings made in his sketch book in the summer of 1918 in the Ypre Salient. Carrick was not a portrait artist and his portrait reliefs were always rather formal, yet in his sketches he captured some of the personality of his comrades.

As a student at Edinburgh College of Art Carrick excelled in all of his classes with the exception of the drawing class, where he always struggled.
