Fraserburgh 3

The Fraserburgh war memorial today with the green patina shown to good effect.

There is a mentality of over-tidyness which has developed over recent years leading to the granite of war memorials being pressure washed and the bronze coated in polyeurethane paint. These treatments undermine the status of these materals which have always been highly valued by man. These wet look paint jobs leave the sculpture looking like glass fibre models. The richness of the bronze patina should be appreciated for what it is, the proof of its metal.
