Modern pyramids

Again it appears Carrick drew inspiration from his 1918 sketch book for the Engineer's memorial.

It seems that artists were often employed as spotters in the artillery of the British Army as they were valued for their ability to make accurate sketches of landscapes, marking enemy positions and the fall of shot.
