As mentioned Carrick carried out restoration works at Saint Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall in his mother's native Orkney Islands.
There is also some evidence that Carrick was involved in some of the masonary works at Dunblane Cathedral which had only been re-constructed from its ruins in the late 19th century and he appears to have been responsible for the simple commemorative stones to the Reverend Alexander Ritchie (above) inside the Cathedral itself.
